International Harm Reduction Conference (HR19) in Porto
This year’s edition of the International Harm Reduction Conference will take place in Porto
The 26th edition of the International Harm Reduction Conference (HR19) takes place between April 28th and May 1st; for the first time, it will be held in Portugal. The largest international harm reduction event is organised by the NGO Harm Reduction International and this year’s edition will be co-organised by APDES.
The city of Porto was selected to welcome more than 1000 people who work in several fields, such as harm reduction, drug use, sex work, LGBTI+ and support to homeless people, all over the world.
Throughout four days of presentations, workshops, movies, networking events and many other activities, this conference will also be an opportunity to share research results and discuss the latest and better practices in terms of drug use, harm reduction and Human Rights.
Harm Reduction International is a NGO focused on reducing the negative health, social and legal impact of drug use and drug policies. It was established at the first edition of the International Harm Reduction Conference, which took place in Liverpool (England) on 1990. The success of the first conference made it become a regular event, organised in some of the world’s major cities.
This organisation has an advisory position at UN Economic and Social Council and it promotes the rights of people who use drugs and their communities, mainly through research and advocacy. One of HRI main goals is to fight for a world where drug policies and laws contribute to healthier and safer societies.
This work is reinforced during this biannual conference, the main global forum for the exchange of information and good practices concerning Human Rights, drug policies and harm reduction.
