The “First International Conference on Drugs Policies in the Portuguese-Speaking African Countries (PALOP)” was promoted by APDES, in cooperation with the Cape Verdean Ministry of Justice.

The event was the first of several meetings aimed to spread and reinforce the strategic cooperation between Governments, International Bodies and Civil Society Organisations, in the ambit of drug policies in the PALOP. Another goal was the creation of a space for reflection regarding the current drug policies, by promoting the analysis of alternative models and analysing their impact in healthcare, social justice and the economy.

The conference took place in Praia, Cape Verde capital city, and was attended by several guests, such as Dr. Jorge Sampaio, heads of State and several ministers of the PALOP, as well as members of worldwide organisations like the West Africa Commission on Drugs, the Global Commission on Drug Policy and the World Health Organization.
