GIRUBarcelos

GIRUBarcelos is an interdisciplinary outreach team that works with drugs users in Barcelos and its main goal is to reduce the risks associated with psychoactive drugs use and to reconnect this population with the formal support system/network.

GIRUBarcelos provides services that promote citizenship, health and social inclusion, where the needles and tin foils exchange, psychosocial support and referral to services gain particular importance.

In 2014, GIRUBarcelos was acknowledged as an example of “Good Practice” by the World Health Organization, due to the promotion of a Peer Education methodology.
